Fellowships & Scholarships

Research Funding Opportunities

The funding and preparation of art historians at all stages of their training are among the core commitments of the DFK Paris. To promote scholarly excellence and the establishment of international careers, the institute offers a variety of fellowships and other funding opportunities. They enable students, doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and (junior) professors to conduct their research in France and to discuss it with the institute’s team of researchers.

Alongside a range of fellowships for predoctoral and early career art historians, the funding programs of the DFK Paris also include study trips and study days as well as colloquia for more focused training. The institute also provides full funding over a period of three years for select doctoral projects (based on the Contrats doctoraux common in France). In addition, five- or six-month internships are available within the institute’s academic departments for students of art history; within the library for students of library science; and within the administration for graduates in the administrative sciences.

In addition to financial and infrastructural support, the DFK Paris attaches great importance to international networking and scholarly exchange. The institute sees itself consciously as a forum for cultivating interactions among art historians from France, Germany, and around the world.
